The Affordable Art Basel! Project
Initiated by Hong Kong Urban Laboratory, the Affordable Art Basel project seeks to intervene into the relationships among the general Hong Kong public, local artists and an art fair through direct engagement.
Part I (2014 May)
We invited citizens who love art to register for free Art Basel tickets and participate in this project. The only requirement for joining is to submit a “Form of Desire” stating a piece of artwork in Art Basel that they really wish to own and the reasons behind. They told us things about the piece, its price and so on. (27 participants were recruited)
Part II (ongoing)
27 local artists were invited to create artworks in different forms in response to the 27 participants’ desires. Some artists reached the participants to learn more about their preferences, some did not. The 27 artworks will be displayed in this exhibition – a completely different art fair, the Affordable Art Basel! The exhibits will then become gifts for the participants.

Art Basel這全球最受關注的當代藝術博覽會年前收購了Art HK，並在2013年5月舉辦第一屆Art Basel HK。大型Art Fair對一個城市在地藝術發展的影響，已有廣泛討論，「買不起，送給你」希望透過直接的實踐，介入香港公眾、藝術家和藝博會的關係，讓這個不論是票價和藝術品都令人覺得「負擔不起」的藝術事任，成為一個可讓不同人在公共領域交流的藝術教育契機。
第一部份（2014年5月）
「藝術巴塞爾：買不起，送給你」邀請喜愛藝術的市民，報名索取我們免費送出的Art Basel入場券。索取入場券，意味著願意參與這計劃，唯一的條件，是在入場參觀後交回「欲望回條」，參加者告訴我們場內最喜歡和最想據為己有的藝術品。在回條上，他們填上藝術品的簡單資料、價格，和愛上那些作品的原因。本部份參與者共27人。
第二部份（進行中）
在Art Basel結束後，我們一共收回27張回條。計劃現已進入第二部份。我們邀請了27位使用不同媒介的香港藝術家，參與這部份，與27張回條配對。他們創作了一系列新作品，回應和「滿足」參加者因Art Basel裡的藝術品而起的「欲望」。部份創作人曾與參加者接觸，進一步了解他們在Art Basel「相中」的作品。27件「二次創造」的作品，將在本展覽展出，讓公眾觀賞一個全然不同的Affordable Art Basel!；展覽結束後，作品將各自成為送給參與者的禮物。
