憶起小時候,家樓下有一小報攤,賣著種類繁多的刊物,我暗地裡響往報販的生活,幻想每天坐在檔口,看看報紙,能知世界事,與街坊聊聊天、感受生活的人情味,生活就是這樣簡單,認為生活的小節,可以看到不同的社區現象,體驗街道文化,感受多元生活,是一個城市最原始的核心元素。
作品以小販檔作創作的主體。因小販檔能夠真實的反映當下城市生活的情況。小販檔出現之背景,於香港五十年代開始,因內地戰亂,大批內地移民湧到香港成為廉價勞工,為解決市民失業問題,政府便發出小販牌照,增加就業機會,安定民生。這是生活的一個小節,反映當時生活的情況。走在街上,有紅色的、綠色的,大大小小的箱,高高矮矮的椅、組合成各式各樣的報攤,檔主收工後,把檔口收藏,卻不自覺地反映了檔主的生活習慣,也讓我增添打開這四四方方的箱子的好奇與幻想。作品,以小販的流動檔口為本,加入幻想。想像自己踏在青青草地上,看著小小魚兒「快樂」地「暢遊」,盡情地在狹窄的城市空間,嘗試利用「偷來」的空間,奢侈地感受大自然的生命力。
Recalling my childhood memory, there was a small news stand, selling a wide variety of publications. I secretly admired the life of newspaper sellers. It is a lifestyle that you can read newspaper to know what is happening in the world, chat with neighbors, feel the grace of life. Life is simple, with a lot of details. You can see the phenomenon of different communities and street cultures, and experience the diversity of life, the primitive core elements of a city.
The subject of the work is hawkers’ stalls, They can be a true reflection of contemporary urban life. During the 50s, a large influx of immigrants and refugees moved from Mainland China to Hong Kong after World WarII. These immigrants cheap labor. To solve the unemployment issues, hawker licenses were issued to create job opportunities and stabilize livelihood. It is a reflection of life at that time. When you walked on the street, there are red and green, large and small boxes, short and tall chairs, forming lots of newsstands. At the end of the day, how the owner closed the stall and unconsciously revealed his personal habits, which in turn arouse my curiosity and imagination. The artwork used the mobilized hawker stall as a subject with fantasy, Imagine myself walking on green grassland, watching fishes swimming happily, enjoying the narrow urban space, and feeling the vitality of nature in this ‘stolen’ space.
